The Philippines is joining the global celebration of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQST) 2025, spearheaded by the Quantum Computing Society of the Philippines (QCSP).
This year marks the 100th anniversary of Werner Heisenberg’s work in quantum mechanics, which has paved the way for many modern technologies.
Quantum mechanics is the foundation of various technologies used today, from computers and smartphones to medical equipment and GPS systems. As we move towards the era of quantum computing, the significance of quantum mechanics is growing. Quantum computing has the potential to revolutionize industries like banking, logistics, and telecommunications by performing complex computations at speeds at speeds that classical computers can’t even touch.
QCSP, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing quantum technology awareness in the Philippines, has lined up several activities to celebrate IYQST. These include a national online webinar on quantum theory, the first-ever Quantum Information Conference in the Philippines, participation in a regional quantum computing hackathon, and Quantum Computing Lecture Series with accompanying hackathons.
They are also launching an educational initiative to introduce quantum computing concepts to elementary and high school students, aiming to equip future generations with the knowledge and skills for the quantum age.
QCSP’s growth and impact are made possible with the support of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and its partnerships with universities across the country.
