HONOR promises seven years of software updates, announces AI-focused Alpha Plan

At Mobile World Congress (MWC), HONOR announced that it will provide seven years of Android OS and security updates for the Magic Series. The move is a key part of their so-called “Alpha Plan,” which aims to establish HONOR as a leader in AI-driven devices.

The Alpha Plan is backed by a USD 10 billion investment and outlines three stages to improve consumer electronics. Their main goal is to create better AI-powered user experiences.

These long-term updates will help the company build a robust AI ecosystem. Keeping devices updated means HONOR can continuously improve their AI capabilities and provide a more seamless and intelligent user experience over a longer period.

Moreover, the extended update policy supports sustainability. Extending the lifespan of devices means less electronic waste. This policy also strengthens HONOR’s position in the competitive market, aligning with other top smartphone makers who are also extending their software support.

The Magic7 Pro will be the first device to benefit from this policy. While it is unclear if mid-range devices will receive the same treatment, this policy will expand to past HONOR flagship phones and foldable devices.

Other companies offering long-term software support include Samsung, Google, OPPO, and Apple. HONOR now joins this exclusive list. Stay tuned for more updates.
