PLDT and Smart train over 100 certified energy managers

PLDT and Smart Communications have trained and certified over 100 employees as Certified Energy Managers (CEM). This effort highlights the Group’s commitment to saving energy and protecting the environment.

The certification was done in partnership with the Meralco Power Academy and aligns with the Department of Energy (DOE) rules. The DOE requires businesses using more than 50,001 kWh of energy yearly to have an Energy Management System (EMS) and report their energy use regularly. As of December 2024, PLDT and Smart have over 1,000 sites meeting this energy use threshold.

The certified employees, who work in network operations and facilities management, are now equipped with the skills to optimize energy use across their operations.

“With Certified Energy Managers among our teams, we aim to enhance our organizational capacity to use energy resources more efficiently and support our decarbonization roadmap,” said Benjamin Cusi, Energy Head at PLDT and Smart. “Our CEMs will enable us to implement smarter and data-driven practices that reduce energy consumption and contribute to our broader sustainability goals.”

PLDT and Smart aim to cut their greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 compared to 2019 levels. By certifying their teams, transitioning to renewable energy, and using green technologies, they’re in a strong position to meet DOE requirements and contribute to global sustainability goals.
