Dangerous heat levels forecast amid warm weather across the Philippines

The Philippines is bracing for extreme temperatures this Holy Wednesday. According to PAGASA, several areas are forecasted to reach dangerous heat index levels.

Los Baños, Laguna, is expected to record the country’s highest heat index at a sweltering 50°C, PAGASA weather forecaster Rhea Torres announced in a 5 a.m. bulletin. San Ildefonso, Bulacan, could reach 47°C, while Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City and the PAGASA Science Garden in Quezon City may experience peak heat indices of 42°C and 41°C, respectively.

The list below highlights the heat index levels across key areas:

  • Los Baños, Laguna: Expected to record a heat index of 50°C (highest in the country)
  • San Ildefonso, Bulacan: Forecasted to have a temperature of 47°C
  • Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), Pasay City: Temperatures may rise to 42°C
  • PAGASA Science Garden, Quezon City: Anticipated peak is 41°C
  • Tuguegarao: Daytime temperature could reach 36°C
  • Metro Manila: Daytime temperature may peak at 35°C
  • Davao: Daytime temperature could also peak at 35°C
  • Iloilo: Forecasted daytime temperature is up to 34°C

The heat index combines air temperature and humidity to measure how hot it feels. Levels between 41°C and 51°C are considered “dangerous,” with risk for heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke.

While most of the country will experience dry and warm conditions, PAGASA said short rains or isolated thunderstorms might occur in the afternoon or evening. Despite the extreme heat, no low-pressure area has been detected inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Stay hydrated and take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses during this period of intense heat.
