PAGASA upgrades PANaHON tracker for smarter weather monitoring

Updated with real-time weather data, ECMWF forecasts, and color-coded hazard alerts for rainy season

PAGASA has upgraded its PANaHON weather tracker to deliver more accurate and accessible updates, just in time for the rainy season.

The improved PANaHON system (PAGASA National Hydro-Met Observing Network) now uses advanced gridded forecasts from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). This helps improve predictions for rainfall, temperature, wind, and air pressure, especially in areas without weather stations.

The online platform features an interactive map with clickable areas, time sliders, and a search function, allowing users to explore near-real-time weather data for their location. A centralized alert system also shows hazard warnings, like floods or strong winds, using easy-to-understand color-coded markers.

PAGASA says the upgrade is designed to help communities stay informed and better prepared for severe weather. It also supports disaster planning and local decision-making by providing accurate forecasts on one platform.

The revamped PANaHON tracker is available at panahon.gov.ph, offering official forecasts and updates from PAGASA.
