Elon Musk starts Macrohard to compete with Microsoft’s AI push

Macrohard will challenge Microsoft’s AI strategy and OpenAI ties.

Elon Musk has launched a new AI software company called Macrohard. Although the name pokes fun at Microsoft, but Musk says the project is serious.

He announced Macrohard on X, inviting AI engineers to join xAI. Musk says Macrohard will focus only on software, with no hardware involved. He believes companies like Microsoft, which don’t build physical devices, can be fully simulated by AI.

“In principle, given that software companies like Microsoft do not themselves manufacture any physical hardware,” Musk said on X, “it should be possible to simulate them entirely with AI.”

Musk has been criticized Microsoft and OpenAI for straying from their original goals. He claims OpenAI now works mainly for Microsoft’s profit, not for the public.

Whether it succeeds or not remains to be seen, but it adds more fuel to the growing tension between Musk, Microsoft, and OpenAI.
