OPPO Reno14 5G review: Tough build, 4K underwater videos, big battery

Durable, feature-packed, and ready for daily use.

The OPPO Reno14 5G is the latest entry in OPPO’s mid-range lineup, and it brings a surprising mix of premium features.

Priced at ₱31,999, the smartphone packs some serious punch with a Dimensity 8350 processor, a 50MP camera with 4K underwater video, and massive 6,000mAh battery.

But is it enough to make it your next daily driver? We took it for a spin, and here’s what we have to say about it.

Design & Display

The Reno14 features a familiar design with flat sides and square camera bump, something we often see in OPPO’s mid-range and budget phones. It’s not flashy, but it has a simple, clean look that feels safe and well put together.

Our review unit came in Luminous Green. It’s a dark green color with a glow effect around the camera island, which OPPO calls the “Luminous Loop.” The other color option is Opal White, which, in our opinion, looks more modern with its surreal Iridescent Mermaid Design.

At the front, the Reno14 has a flat 6.59-inch AMOLED display with an FHD 2760×1256 resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. We like flat screens and this one stands out. It uses a 10-bit panel with 100% DCI-P3 coverage, offering a wide color range, accurate tones, and support for over 1.07 billion colors.

In short, it delivers vibrant colors and deep blacks. With a peak brightness of 1200 nits, it also performs well outdoors.

The phone is also built to for tough conditions. It’s durability is enhanced by Gorilla Glass 7i, a pre-installed plastic screen protector, and a bundled jelly case with a hard acrylic back.

It’s also water- and dust-resistant with IP68 and IP69 ratings, meaning it can handle strong jets of water and being submerged in up to 2 meters of fresh water for 30 minutes. This also enables Underwater Mode, which we’ll cover in the camera section.

The Reno14 is built for adventure, or at the very least, it stands a better chance of surviving daily wear and tear than most phones in its class.

As for the layout, the volume rockers and power button are on the right side. It also has good-sounding stereo speakers, a USB-C port, and an IR blaster so you can use it as a remote control.

Performance

The Reno14 delivers impressive performance across the board, easily handling demanding tasks, including gaming and multitasking.

Under the hood, the handset has a MediaTek Dimensity 8350 processor with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM. This is the same chip found in last year’s Reno13 Pro. Our unit came with 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage, which is plenty. You can also add up to 12GB of virtual RAM to boost performance.

The phone also runs on ColorOS 15, based on Android 15. As with its predecessors, it comes with several AI-powered smart features to improve performance. It also has Live Alerts, which works like Apple’s Dynamic Island.

Like other OPPO phones, it comes with the usual bloatware. Just uninstall or disable the ones you won’t use. As for updates, expect 2 years of major Android OS updates and 4 years of security patches.

Overall, the Reno14 offers impressive performance. It feels fast and smooth in everyday use. Watching videos and playing music is also good, thanks to its clear stereo speakers. The fingerprint scanner under the screen works quickly and accurately

The performance is backed by several benchmark tests, with impressive scores all around.

  • AnTuTu Benchmark V10.5.1: 1,391,041
  • Geekbench 6: 1,299 single-core; 3,948 multi-core
  • 3DMark Wild Life: Maxed Out!

Cameras

The Reno14 has a triple-camera system consisting of a 50MP Sony IMX882 main camera, a 50MP telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom, and an 8MP ultra-wide lens. Both the main and telephoto cameras have OIS. The front camera also has a 50MP sensor.

Like any modern phone, its camera app is easy to use and navigate, with the most popular modes within easy reach. Moreover, it has the usual modes, including Night, Hi-Res, Pro, and more.

The Photos app also features AI Editor, which includes several AI-powered editing tools, such as AI Recompose, AI Eraser, AI Perfect Shot, Enhance clarity, Unblur, and Remove reflections. Do note that all these need an internet connection to work.

One of the highlights of the Reno14 is the Underwater photography mode, which, now offers 4K video recording. In this mode, the touch screen is disabled and the volume rockers become shutter buttons for photos and videos. Holding the power button for 3 seconds deactivates Underwater mode, and activates the speaker’s water ejection function.

Overall, the Reno14 has decent cameras. It is highly capable of producing high quality photos with nice details, wide dynamic range, and color accuracy, especially in bright lighitng conditions. Here are some of the sample photos.

Sample Photos

Zoom

When zooming in beyond the optical range, the phone employs sharpening and other enhancements to produce usable photos.

Low Light & Night Mode

Low light and night mode are decent. However, like most phones in this range, it will struggle in dark conditions.

Underwater Mode

The Reno14’s underwater photography mode is enabled by its IP69 rating. Just keep its limitations in mind — up to 2 meters deep in fresh water, for up to 30 minutes.

4K Underwater Video

@technobry Built for the bold. Capture stunning 4K shots underwater and stay protected with IP68/69 durability. #Divein4K with the OPPO Reno14 5G. The OPPO Reno14 Series 5G has arrived. Don’t miss the launch perks. It’s time to #MakeYourMoment ♬ original sound – Bry of Technobaboy.com

Selfies

Selfies have good detail, colors, and pleasant skin tones. Even at low light conditions, it uses the screen to provide fill light.

Battery Life

The Reno14 comes with a 6,000mAh battery and supports 80W wired fast charging. With light to moderate use, the phone can last a full day on a single charge.

In our battery test using PC Mark Work 3.0, it lasted 10 hours and 56 minutes. The test started at 100% battery, with brightness at 80%, sound off, and airplane mode on. That’s close to 11 hours of screen time.

Charging is fast. It took only 51 minutes to go from 0% to 100%. This means spending less time plugged in.

Final Thoughts

oppo reno14 5g

As the base model in OPPO’s latest mid-range lineup, the Reno14 5G delivers more than expected. It features a vibrant 6.59-inch AMOLED display, a capable Dimensity 8350 processor, and strong water protection with an IP69 rating.

Add to that a massive 6,000mAh battery with 80W fast charging, 4K underwater videos, and cameras good enough for everyday use, and you’ve got a daily driver that punches above its weight.

The phone starts at ₱31,999, which is a bit higher than other phones in the same range. However, you do get more in return in durability, battery life, and performance.

If you’re looking for a tough and reliable all-rounder with a solid set of features, the OPPO Reno14 5G should be on your list.
