Google Maps with Gemini rolls out to Android and iOS

Gemini-powered features include voice navigation, landmark-based directions, and traffic alerts.

Google Maps is getting a major upgrade. Gemini is now part of the navigation experience on Android and iOS. The update is rolling out in areas where Gemini is available, with Android Auto support coming soon.

With Gemini, users can talk to Google Maps while driving. You can ask for nearby places, check if EV chargers are available, share your ETA, or even add calendar events without touching your phone. It also supports multi-step questions, so you can ask for a restaurant with parking and book it in one go.

Directions are now easier to follow as well. Instead of vague instructions like “turn right in 500 feet,” you’ll hear things like “turn right after Thai Siam Restaurant.” These landmark-based cues help make turns clearer, especially in busy areas.

Google Maps also sends traffic alerts, even if you’re not using navigation. You’ll get notified about accidents, road closures, or slowdowns ahead.

Another new feature is Lens with Gemini. Just point your phone at a place and ask questions like “What is this?”. Gemini will use visual data and location info to respond quickly.

These new features are rolling out gradually on Android and iOS. Stay tuned for updates.
