Apple is lining up its next iPhone software update, iOS 26.2, for mid-December. Unlike the bigger upgrades planned for 2026, this release will bring small improvements that make everyday use a little smoother.
One change you’ll notice is in the look of the system. A new slider will let you adjust the transparency of the Liquid Glass effect on the lock screen, and the same look will also be available to the Measure app. Menus are also getting fresh animations to make navigation feel more fluid.
AirDrop is being updated to improve privacy. Instead of opening sharing to everyone nearby, you’ll be able to send files to people outside your contacts using a one-time code. Apple Music lyrics will also work offline, which is a welcome addition for those who use the feature regularly.
Sleep tracking is also shifting. Scores will often come out lower than before, but Apple says this is meant to encourage better rest.

In Japan, iPhone owners will get the option to set the side button to launch voice assistants other than Siri. That feature could expand to Europe and other regions.
As usual, the update will include bug fixes and security patches. Stay tuned for updates.
