Crypto.com founder Kris Marszalek has acquired the domain AI.com for $70 million, making it the most expensive domain sale ever recorded. The purchase was paid entirely in cryptocurrency, with broker Larry Fischer handling the deal.
Marszalek said artificial intelligence will be one of the biggest technology shifts in the next decade. Owning AI.com gives Crypto.com a premium digital asset tied directly to that future.
The sale beats previous records like CarInsurance.com ($49.7 million in 2010), VacationRentals.com ($35 million in 2007), and Voice.com ($30 million in 2019).

Crypto.com is no stranger to high-profile spending. In 2021, the company paid $700 million for naming rights to the Los Angeles arena now known as Crypto.com Arena.

Whether these massive investments deliver long-term returns remains to be seen. The $70 million deal shows how valuable digital assets like domain names have become and highlights their importance in branding and strategy.
What do you think of the purchase? Did Crypto.com overpay, or did they make the right move? Stay tuned.
