According to a recent survey, most Filipino students use AI tools for schoolwork, especially writing. The study from the ASEAN Foundation revealed that 83 percent of students in the Philippines have used platforms like ChatGPT. Around 3 in 4 said they rely on AI to paraphrase online sources and adding them in essays and reports.
Meanwhile, teachers are also trying out AI, but not as much. About 73 percent of educators said they have used generative AI, but only 42 percent use it regularly for writing tasks. Many are cautious, pointing to issues of accuracy, ethics, and the role of AI in classrooms.
The trend is not limited to the Philippines. Across Southeast Asia, 87 percent of students use AI to search for information, while 75 percent use it to help with writing.
The ASEAN Foundation noted that while adoption is strong, safeguards are not enough. Experts warn that the growing use of AI also raises cybersecurity risks.
