OpenAI to show ads to ChatGPT Free and Go users

OpenAI is set to roll out ads to ChatGPT Free and Go users in the United States. The company says the change will happen in the coming weeks.

The ads could appear inside ChatGPT conversations. To make this happen, OpenAI partnered with Criteo, a global ad tech company.

Why ads? Running large AI models costs a lot. Ads give OpenAI another way to earn money while keeping free access available. This move also helps the company compete with other AI platforms that are testing different ways to make money.

For users, this means ads will soon be part of the ChatGPT experience. For advertisers, it opens a new channel to reach millions of people who use the tool daily.
