Samsung’s One UI 8.5 update adds a feature to the Galaxy S26 series — letting the phones work as wired webcams for computers. The update supports both Windows and macOS, giving users another option for video calls and online meetings. It’s not yet clear if other Galaxy models will get the same feature.
The webcam mode lets you choose which camera to use: ultrawide, main rear, or front. There’s also an HD mode that improves video quality.
On Windows, the Galaxy S26 can output up to Full HD (1080p) at 30 or 60 frames per second. On macOS, resolution is limited to HD (720p, 30fps). The feature only handles video, so you’ll still need your computer’s microphone or a headset for audio.
Before this update, Galaxy phones could only be used as webcams on Windows through the Phone Link app. Now, with One UI 8.5, the process is simpler and works natively with a wired connection.

It’s worth noting that Google introduced a similar native USB webcam feature to Pixel phones earlier with Android 14 QPR1. Samsung’s move brings the same convenience to Galaxy users, starting with the S26 series.
