Chrome adds vertical tabs and immersive reading mode

Google has announced two new productivity features in Chrome: vertical tabs and an immersive reading mode. The update will help users manage tabs more efficiently and focus on reading without distractions.

Vertical tabs move the tab strip from the top of the browser to the side. This layout shows full page titles, making it easier to identify and organize multiple tabs. It also improves tab group management, which is useful for users who have a lot of tabs open at the same time.

The immersive reading mode offers a clean, full‑page interface that strips away visual clutter. By right‑clicking on a page and selecting “Open in reading mode,” users can focus on text content without ads, sidebars, or other distractions.

The rollout is global and available in the latest version of Chrome. Users can enable vertical tabs in settings and access reading mode directly from the context menu.
