Do you have an old computer lying around? Turn it into a Chromebook.
Google has partnered with Back Market, known for refurbished electronics, to make it easier to extend the life of aging PCs and Macs via the ChromeOS Flex USB kit. The kit helps users install Google’s lightweight operating system on older hardware.
The kit is available through Back Market for about $3/€3 (roughly ₱180). It comes with simple guides and video tutorials. Once installed, ChromeOS Flex provides a secure, fast, and energy-efficient system that works well on devices no longer supported by Windows or macOS.
Google claims that ChromeOS consumes around 19 percent less energy compared to similar systems. You can also download ChromeOS Flex for free.
The kit is reusable and backed by Closing the Loop, a group focused on minimizing tech waste. You can check Google’s certified models list to confirm if your device is compatible before installation.
