Samsung Messages discontinued July 2026, here’s how to move

Samsung Messages has officially shut down as of July 6, 2026, ending support for the app after years of service. For now, this is only for the US market.

The move affects Galaxy devices still using the app, with Samsung directing users to switch to Google Messages for continued support and modern features. We reported the announcement in early April, and the transition is now complete.

Google Messages brings RCS messaging, AI-powered spam protection, and Gemini AI features like smart replies and photo remixing. It also supports multi-device connectivity across phones, tablets, and watches. Emergency messaging remains available, but older Tizen watches may face limitations.

To switch, users can download Google Messages from the Galaxy Store or Play Store. Once installed, set it as the default messaging app in settings. You can also uninstall Samsung Messages after this.

Samsung has confirmed that Galaxy S26 and newer devices cannot download Samsung Messages, and the app has been removed from the Galaxy Store.

The shutdown is part of Samsung’s push to accelerate RCS adoption, bringing secure chats, group messaging, and high-quality media sharing to more users. While the change is currently limited to the US market, global phase-out is expected soon.

For now, US Galaxy users must move to Google Messages to continue enjoying modern messaging features. Outside the US, Samsung Messages may still function, but support will eventually end.
