Facebook is bringing back the Facebook Verified badge, giving users a free way to confirm their identity through a selfie-based process. The badge shows that a profile belongs to a real person. The goal is to make users feel safer, especially across apps like Marketplace, Dating, Groups, and Profiles.
The badge is available only to accounts that meet the platform’s trust and safety standards. Users must be at least 18 years old and in good standing with Facebook’s Community Standards and Commerce Policies.
Pages and ProMode accounts are not eligible. Verification is free and requires a quick selfie check to confirm authenticity.
For now, the badge appears on Marketplace, Dating, Groups, and Profiles. Facebook says it will expand to Feed posts later. The company notes that while the badge confirms a profile is tied to a real person, it does not guarantee trustworthiness or serve as an endorsement.
What the badge means
The Verified badge means that the account belongs to a real person who passed Facebook’s selfie check. It helps reduce fake profiles and makes everyday interactions more secure. However, it is not a mark of credibility or approval from Facebook.
Different from Meta Verified
Take note that Facebook Verified is different from Meta Verified, which is a paid subscription that gives accounts on Facebook and Instagram a blue check mark. Meta Verified offers added features and protections, while Facebook Verified focuses only on confirming that a profile belongs to a real person.

The move comes as AI makes it easier to create fake accounts and content. Facebook Verified is rolling out now, with more features expected in the coming months.
