The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) is studying privacy safeguards for a proposed online age verification system on social media and gaming platforms.
The agency held a town hall meeting with government officials and digital safety groups. Everyone agreed that apps need to protect kids. But they said checking age should not mean sharing your full identity.
Groups called for a smart approach to data, saying systems should only check if a user is old enough. Data collected should only cover basic details.
The National Privacy Commission supported a simple yes-no way to check age. Meanwhile, the Philippine Statistics Authority suggested using the national ID system, saying it can verify age without sharing your full identity.
Privacy and pseudonyms will stay protected. Still, CICC Executive Director Renato Paraiso said authorities must track down online predators and groomers. He said that privacy should not hide bad actors targeting children.

The CICC is building a technical team with Meta and Roblox. The team will look at rules, tech systems, and data storage to set up the system.
