CICC has given Reddit and Discord 24 hours to set up offices in the Philippines after recent school shooting incidents raised alarms over online safety. The agency wants both platforms to appoint local reps for accountability and faster response to threats.
The order comes as authorities link extremist content, grooming, and child exploitation to activity on these platforms. CICC said it is not asking companies to police the internet but to be reachable when online risks spill into the real world.
Reddit and Discord were told to submit written reports on their current safety measures. The agency also asked for plans on stricter age checks, faster response systems, and stronger standards to protect minors.
CICC is pushing for a cooperative framework to fight online sexual abuse, child exploitation materials, and violent extremism. The Department of Foreign Affairs has been tapped to coordinate with Meta, Discord, Reddit, and other platforms for wider talks on child safety.
The agency warned that failure to comply could lead to restrictions or even blocking access to these platforms in the country. Earlier this month, CICC met with Meta and Roblox to form a working group on child safety, faster takedowns, and secure age verification.
