Discord became inaccessible on Globe and DITO networks after the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) enforced its 24-hour ultimatum. The agency blocked the platform in the Philippines, citing failure to provide clear commitments on child safety and cooperation. Reddit, meanwhile, was granted an extension after agreeing to set up a local office and coordinate with regulators.
The agency apologized to users affected by the block, noting that Discord is widely used for school, business, and communication beyond gaming. They stressed that the restriction is temporary and will be lifted once Discord provides the required commitments. Different posts on Reddit showed users across Globe and DITO unable to access the service, confirming the block’s immediate impact.
The move follows a school shooting incident where authorities linked extremist communities on Discord to the radicalization of minors. The CICC said Discord’s response, which only showed existing teen safety tools like its Global Teen Experience and Family Center, was not enough to meet local requirements.
Reddit responded differently, meeting with CICC officials and committing to establish a Philippine office. The platform also agreed to create “green lanes” for urgent content review, allowing faster action against harmful material. This cooperation earned Reddit more time to comply with the directive.

For now, Discord remains inaccessible on Globe and DITO until it provides concrete commitments. Reddit continues to operate in the country as it works with regulators to meet compliance standards.
