Reddit’s latest transparency report shows the Philippines among the top countries requesting content removals in the second half of 2025. The platform confirmed that none of the reported content from the Philippines was taken down.
The report logged 169 government and law enforcement removal requests worldwide, up 9.7% from the first half of the year. In the Philippines, the flagged content involved criticism of public figures, claims of corruption, and general commentary on newsworthy events.
The National Bureau of Investigations requested 12 removals, while the Philippines National Police reported 74 pieces of content for alleged defamation of politicians and public figures. Reddit said these did not violate platform rules.
Overall, Reddit removed 154 million posts and comments during the period. More than half were taken down by community moderators, while admins handled the rest. Spam made up most of the removals, but enforcement against hate and harassment grew sharply with expanded automated systems.
Account actions also increased, with 3.18 million bans and over 600,000 communities removed, mostly for spam or lack of moderation. Safety measures included removing 55,000 pieces of child sexual abuse material and nearly 700 pieces of terrorist content.
Legal demands also rose. Reddit processed 235 private party requests, mostly from the US, UK, and Canada. Copyright takedown notices reached 69,000, leading to 217,000 pieces of content removed. Trademark notices also grew, though only a small fraction of content was affected.
Other countries also ranked high in removal requests, including India, UAE, and Australia. These requests reflected broader government and legal efforts to moderate online activity.

The report shows how local authorities are actively requesting removals, but Reddit’s refusal shows its stance on protecting commentary when no rules are broken.
However, the company recently agreed to set up a local office in the Philippines and create “green lanes” for urgent content review, allowing faster action against harmful material. How this affects future removal requests is uncertain.
