Sony is bringing AI upscaling to the PS5 with a new technology called Quick Spectral Super Resolution. The feature improves image detail, clarity, and stability, giving players a taste of the PS5 Pro’s visual quality.
The PS5 Pro already uses PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, but its heavy demands made it impractical for the base console. QSSR is a streamlined version designed to balance performance and image quality.
It was developed through Project Amethyst, a collaboration with AMD, using a simplified neural network and hand‑tuned implementation to maximize PS5 performance.
Compared to standard rendering, QSSR delivers sharper pixel‑level clarity and better temporal stability. This means smoother visuals and more consistent detail across fast‑moving scenes. For players, it translates to cleaner graphics without sacrificing performance.
The first games to support QSSR are Marvel’s Wolverine from Insomniac Games and Ghost of Yōtei from Sucker Punch Productions. Both titles are being patched immediately to include QSSR as a graphics option.

Sony confirmed that QSSR will be available to all PlayStation developers. More games are expected to adopt the technology in the coming months, expanding its reach across the PS5 library.

For players, this means sharper visuals starting now, with wider support coming soon. Developers can integrate QSSR into future titles, making AI upscaling a standard feature on PS5.
