Apple starts optimizing apps for iPhone Duo

Apple is making sure iPhone Duo users get optimized apps at launch. Developers can now prepare and submit Duo-ready apps using updated tools.

Apple rolled out Xcode 27.1, which developers must use to build or recompile apps for the Duo. Apps compiled with this version will carry a badge in the App Store showing they are ready for the new device. This makes it easy for users to spot Duo-compatible apps.

Starting April 2027, all new apps submitted to the App Store will need to include a screenshot of the app running on an iPhone Duo. This requirement pushes developers to make Duo support standard across their apps.

To help with the transition, Apple is hosting in-person workshops focused on iPhone Duo. These sessions give developers hands-on guidance to meet the requirements before the device hits stores.

Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo open on October 16, with availability starting October 23. Apple’s early move to optimize apps shows its intent to deliver a smooth experience for users from day one.
