Rumor: Apple to Launch 8-Inch iPad at MWC

Do you like to own an Apple tablet but find the 10.1-inch display on the iPad 2 too big for your taste?  You may soon get the chance to own a smaller Apple tablet as rumors of an 8-inch iPad are floating around.  These rumors started with The Wall Street Journal whose sources have hinted that Apple is currently testing a tablet that’s smaller than the iPad 2 and sized at just about 8 inches.  According to the publication’s sources, suppliers have seen the 8-inch device being shown around by Apple.  The company is said to be qualifying suppliers for the tablet. The resolution on the rumored 8-inch iPad is said to be 1024 x 768, the same as that on the iPad and iPad 2.

This rumor could be true, not only because the source is a reputable publication but also because Apple needs to make a smaller tablet.  The tablet market is huge and Apple has proven that the platform is a hit but other tablet makers are slowly eating into the market share of Apple.   In my opinion, Apple will benefit from the launch of an 8-inch iPad since it will widen the choices of consumers and it would attract users who prefer smaller displays like the Amazon Kindle Fire or the Galaxy Tab 7.0 or 7.7.  Still, the 8-inch iPad is just a rumor until Apple announces the product so you may want to take this with a grain of salt.  And even if it is indeed true that there are plans for an 8-inch iPad and it’s in the testing phase, it’s still not certain if Apple will decide to launch it.

I am personally wishing for an 8-inch iPad.  That size would be ideal for my purposes and it’s not too bulky to carry around.   If the rumor is true, there’s a possibility that Apple will launch it at the upcoming Mobile World Congress event.
