After numerous leaks, Samsung officially unveils the Galaxy Note 8. The device features a huge 6.3-inch display, 6GB of RAM and an enhanced S Pen.
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Philippines Specs, Price, Availability
The Galaxy Note 8 is finally official, and it looks like Samsung went all out on this one. After last year’s Note 7 fiasco, the Note 8 has a lot riding on its shoulders. So, what does the handset bring to the table? Let’s check out its key features.
Infinity Display
The Galaxy Note 8 comes with a 6.3-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED Infinity Display. Much like Galaxy S8+, the Note 8 comes with a big screen with curved bezel-less sides that seem to melt into the thin metal frame. It has a 2960 by 1440 resolution and an eye popping 552ppi. As with the previous Notes that came before it, the size of the screen allows for better Multi Window support. It also has the new App Pair feature where in you can simultaneously launch a pair of apps on the each Edge panel.
Dual Rear Cameras
Finally, Samsung joins the bandwagon. The Galaxy Note 8 is the first Samsung phone to sport a dual rear camera setup. It has two 12MP rear cameras, one providing wide-angle the other telephoto. Both are equipped with Optical Image Stabilization to minimize movement to improve sharpness on either sensor.
A welcome feature that came with the dual cameras is Live Focus. It lets users control the depth of field by allowing adjustments over the bokeh effect while in preview mode.
S Pen
The Galaxy Note 8 won’t be a Note without the S Pen. The device’s defining feature has been enhanced. It has a finer tip and improved pressure sensitivity for better control and accuracy. Among its new functions is Live Message — a feature that allows sharing of animated texts and drawings across platforms that support GIFs. You can also translate text by hovering over it in up to 71 languages, including units and foreign currencies.
IP68 Rating
The Galaxy Note 8 comes with an IP68 dust and water resistance, allowing you to take the Note 8 always anywhere. It can survive up to 5 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. Plus, you can write using the S Pen even if the display is wet.
Fast Wireless Charging
Like the Galaxy S8+, the Galaxy Note 8 also supports fast wireless charging. It’s a welcome feature considering the handset has a huge display and a relatively small 3,300 mAh battery (considering the S8+ has a 3,500 mAh and a smaller screen).
Top Specs
The Galaxy Note 8 is powered by 2.3GHz Octa-core Exynos 8895 processor, paired with 6GB of RAM and a 64GB of storage. Aside from the what we have already mentioned, the handset also comes with a fingerprint sensor (which some find awkwardly placed), an iris scanner, a USB Type-C port, support for Samsung DeX, and Bixby.
Commitment to Safety
Samsung has learned their lesson from the Note 7 and has worked hard to improve the safety standards of not just the Note 8, but on other product lines as well. Samsung is assuring its customers that the Galaxy Note 8’s battery has undergone Samsung’s 8-Point Battery Safety Check, widely considered as one of the most rigorous in the industry.
“We have been closely working with Samsung to make meaningful advancements in the science of smartphone quality and safety evaluation. As a result, the Galaxy Note8 has successfully completed a rigorous series of device and battery safety compatibility test protocols. We look forward to maintaining our strategic relationship with Samsung to help ensure device safety for all consumers.” – Sajeev Jesudas, President, UL International, a global independent safety science company with more than a century of expertise innovating safety solutions.
