Google recently rolled out a new design for the Play Store. It is now available to all Android devices.
The new Play Store is based on an updated Material Design guide that was announced in last year’s Google I/O. It features a cleaner and more streamlined look. One of the main changes was the repositioning of the main categories tab on smartphones. It is now found at the bottom of the display where it can be easily reached by your thumb.

Apart from that, the app icons appear bigger as well for easier navigation. The background color is also predominantly white. This may look really bright, but it does change to black when using dark mode on Android Q.
All in all, I appreciate the new look. Personally, I like the clean aesthetic. Only issue is the overall white color of the background. System wide Dark Mode is still a few weeks off (for some smartphones), so we’ll just have to make do until its available.
For better appreciation, I suggest you go try it out yourself. Just launch the Play Store on your Android device. It should be updated by now.
