5 reasons why the Huawei Y9S should be on your radar this 2020

It’s now 2020 and Huawei starts the year with a bang-for-buck smartphone. The Huawei Y9S was just announced in the Philippines. Priced at PHP 13,990, their latest mid-range smartphone succeeds the Huawei Y9 Prime, offering good value for our hard earned peso.

If you’re on the fence on this one, don’t worry because I have you covered. It’s time we take a look at the Huawei Y9S and see if what it offers is for you.

Here are 5 reasons why the Huawei Y8S is such a good buy.

1. Large FullScreen display

Thanks to its pop-up selfie camera, the Huawei Y9S gets to have a large screen real estate with a 91% screen-to-body ratio. It has thin bezels all around, giving it even a more full screen look. And at a large 6.59-inches, it is the perfect size for watching videos and playing games.

2. Pop-up selfie camera

And speaking of pop-up selfie cameras, the Y9S has a 16MP sensor with an f/2.2 lens tucked in. The mechanism that pop-up and retract the camera exceeds the industry level and tests standards. In fact, it can pop-up and retract over 100,000 times without harm.

Moreover, pop-up camera also comes with Smart Drop protection. This retracts the camera as quickly as possible when dropped, protecting it from damage.

3. Performance

The Huawei Y9S comes with many tools to make it perform better. It is equipped with a 12nm Kirin 710F chipset with four Cortex-A73 big cores that operate up to 2.2GHz and four Cortex-A53 little cores that operate up to 1.7GHz. It also has 6GB RAM, GPU Turbo 3.0, and Huawei’s EROFS file system.

What does this all mean? Compared with the previous-generation Kirin 659 chipset, the Kirin 710F provides roughly 75% better single-core performance and around 68% improved multi-core performance in CPU. It also doubles the power efficiency and delivers 1.3 times higher performance in GPU, lowering power consumption by 30%.

What’s more, the EROFS file system improves random read speed by 20% and saves storage by 14%.

4. Google Mobile Services

Google Mobile Services (GMS) on any other brand should not be in this list. But given the tenuous nature of Huawei’s and Google’s partnership is at the moment, I felt inclined to include it.

That being said, the Huawei Y9S comes with a complete suite of Google services. That means you get the Google Play Store, Gmail, YouTube, and more.

This also means you get to enjoy the best of both worlds from Huawei and Google.

4.5 Battery

In case you didn’t like my entry on GMS, well, there’s always the Y9S’s huge 4,000mAh battery. I know that the capacity is pretty much standard in many modern mid-range smartphones, but it deserves a mention. Huawei has included AI Power Saving 7.0 on board.

Not only does it make your phone last longer, but it intelligently allocates power when its needed. In Huawei’s testing, this resulted in up to 40 hours of phone calls, up to 80 hours of music playing, or up to 14 hour of web browsing, up to 9 hours of video playback, or up to 9 hours of gaming.

5. Design

There are a number of reasons why I like the Huawei Y9S’s design. The Breathing Crystal colorway is one of them. It uses a complicated 21-layer glass process to create gorgeous aesthetic.

But my favorite design element, if you will, is much simpler. It’s the side-mounted fingerprint scanner. I really love how its placed in an area where my digits naturally go to when grabbing the phone. The fact that it is faster and more responsive than it’s in-display variants is a huge bonus.

There are many more reasons to consider why the Huawei Y9S is such a good device, but these are my top 5. I do hope this post helps you in making a decision. You’re not losing out on this one. The phone offers great value, even if you’re not into pop-up cameras.

The Huawei Y9S is available for pre-order with a price of PHP 13,990.
