The Huawei MatePad Pro is the latest premium tablet from Huawei, featuring a sleek aluminum build, a Kirin 990 processor, a large battery, and a host of accessories designed for productivity.
Tablets have always been marketed as productivity tools, but have always been hampered by hardware and software limitations. It was only when the iPad blew up that people began to realize the potential of tablets.
Huawei Philippines recently sent us a unit for review. While that’s building up, check out our first impressions below.

As always, let’s start from the outside looking in.
The Huawei MatePad Pro is packaged in the clean white box. Inside, you have the tablet, a USB Type-C cable, a 22.5W fast charger, the SIM eject tool, and a headphone jack to USB Type-C dongle.

The tablet is designed to highlight the expansive 10.8-inch WQXGA display. Surrounded by thin bezels, the screen’s size is perfect for watching movies, browsing the web, and even writing email and documents.
Made to be used on landscape orientation, you have a punch hole cutout with an 8MP front camera on the upper left corner. It has four speakers, two on each side.

The power button is on the left side, while the volume rockers sit on the top corner.
My review unit came with the keyboard cover case and the new M Pencil. Both stick to the tablet using very strong magnets, charging wirelessly.

The typing experience has been good. We’ll find out after prolonged use if my opinion holds.

As for the hardware, the MatePad Pro is powered by a Kirin 990 processor with 6GB LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB UFS 3.0 storage. It has an expansion slot for Huawei’s proprietary NM Card.
Battery capacity is a good 7,250mAh with support for fast charging. It lacks a fingerprint scanner, though, but more than makes up for it with fast face unlock.

That’s it for our initial hands-on review of the Huawei MatePad Pro. So far, I am liking the tablet and will continue to use it as a writing and entertainment device. Stay tuned for our full review, which will come out in a week or so.
The Huawei MatePad Pro is priced at PHP 32,990. It is available for pre-order from April 15 to 24, 2020.
