How to use Watch Together on Facebook Messenger and Instagram

Facebook’s new messaging features for Messenger and Instagram are now available. Watch Together, along with several more features, are introduced to enhance the experience on both apps allowing for more expressive messages.

Here, we have Watch Together, a feature that allows friends in a video chat to watch the same video content with friends.

The new feature was announced last September, followed by a global roll out. For those who want to use Watch Together, be sure to have the latest version of Instagram and Messenger.

Here’s how to use Watch Together on Messenger or Instagram.

  1. Start by initiating a Messenger video call or create a Messenger Room.
  2. Swipe up from the bottom to access the menu and select Watch Together.
  3. Search for content from different categories such as TV & Movies, Watched, etc., and choose a video.

And that’s it. Up to eight people can watch together on a Messenger video call and up to fifty in Rooms.

Other New Features

Aside from Watch Together, Facebook also announced several new features to Messenger.

The social network introduced new chat themes, such as tie-dye and the new TinyTAN for BTS fans. The theme has a purple color scheme together with purple heart emojis. To activate, go to chat settings on the upper right (the “i” icon). Tap Themes and select TinyTAN.

Next, we all know about Vanish Mode, which is available in select markets. In Vanish Mode, seen messages disappear after a person leaves a chat room. Only people connected on Facebook or those that follow each other on Instagram can use it in one-on-one chat rooms.

Other features include new selfie stickers, custom emoji reactions, animated message effects, and message controls.
