Design and Build
The Vx560 comes with an ultra-compact design measuring just 65 x 42.7 x 11 mm and weighing only 66.7 g. Its impressively small for an external SSD drive with rounded corners, able to easily fit your bag, pouch, or even a pocket.
As for the build, it’s robust and durable. The external SSD has a thick aluminum housing. It feels very solid. There’s no give at the center when you pressed down on it.
Performance
Our unit was the 512GB model. According to its spec sheet, the SSD has up to 490MB/s read and 450MB/s write speed. The same goes for the 128GB and the 256GB capacities. The 1TB unit has a faster read/write speed of 550MB/s and 500MB/s, respectively.
The SSD has UASP support, which allows for even better performance with up to 70% faster read speeds and 40% faster write speeds, compared with the usual UBS 3.0.
Back to the 512GB, CrystalDiskMark 8 has it at 463MB/s read and 449MB/s write at peak performance, which is close to the promised speed. In real life, that translates to transfers of over 1.5GB files from and to your computer completing in just a few seconds. This is with a USB 3.0 port and the supplied USB-A to USB-C cable.
The SSD took two to three times longer to transfer multiple files (in this case, 447 images with file sizes ranging from 5MB to 10MB with a total size of 2.2GB). The difference is in seconds. Overall results are very impressive.
