Mobile number porting available starting September 30

Mobile number porting (MNP), or the ability to keep mobile numbers when transferring to another network provider, will be available starting September 30, 2021.

The Telecommunications Connectivity Inc (TCI), the company set up by Smart Communications, Globe Telecom, and DITO Telecommunity in compliance with the MNP act, confirms.

With the MNP in place, mobile users will be able to keep their mobile numbers when transferring from one network provider to another, or when switching subscriptions from postpaid to prepaid, or vice-versa.

Like any new service, TCI said number porting will come with a few hiccups. For one, there will be no prepaid to postpaid porting to DITO, since the telco doesn’t have a postpaid service.

Another issue is that there will be limitations on domestic and international inbound and outbound voice calls and roaming. SMS, on the other hand, will be available across the three telcos as normal.

TCI requests subscribers to be patient as the service is new. They assured that Smart, Globe, and DITO are working together to iron out the issues.
