Apple announces iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, PH price revealed

Apple launches the iPhone 14, along with a bigger iPhone 14 Plus, featuring 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays, respectively. As expected, the “mini” variant is no more and replaced by the larger model.

The only significant difference between the two iPhones is the display sizes and the battery capacities. The iPhone 14 has a 6.1-inch screen with 2532×1170 resolution and 460 PPI, while the iPhone 14 Plus sports a 6.7-inch screen with a 2778×1284 resolution and 458 PPI.

Both have an OLED panel with a laundry list of technologies, including True Tone, P3 Wide Color Gamut, Dolby Vision, HDR, and Haptic Touch, capable of going up to 1200 nits of brightness.

Both iPhones feature an aerospace-grade aluminum design in five colors, Midnight, Purple, Starlight, Product Red, and Blue. The displays are protected with a Ceramic Shield front cover.

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are powered by the A15 Bionic chip, the same one found on the iPhone 13, but updated with a 5-core GPU, which is said to be 18% faster for smoother graphics. It also features a 6-core GPU and a 16-core NPU for advanced machine learning, and the latest iOS 16.

At the back, the new iPhones have 12MP main and 12MP ultra-wide cameras. It also features the Photonic Engine for improved lowlight performance and a Cinematic mode with 4K at 30fps and 4K at 24fps. In front, a 12MP TrueDepth camera with Face ID takes care of selfies, hidden on a small bar-type notch.

As for the battery life, expect up to 20 hours of video playback, up to 16 hours of streaming video, and up to 80 hours of audio playback on the iPhone 14. The iPhone 14 Plus does better with up to 26 hours of video playback, up to 20 hours of streaming video, and up to 100 hours of audio playback.

The lightning connector is still present. Apple says a 30-minute charge gives up to 50% of the battery.

The new iPhones also incorporated new features, such as Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via satellite. Crash Detections is alerted using G-force measurements and advanced gyroscopes to detect crashes. Meanwhile, Emergency SOS now has satellite support that enables messaging even without a cellular connection.

Price and Availability

As for availability details of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus in the Philippines, expect them to arrive sometime in late October to early November.
