Pantone’s Color of the Year 2023 is Viva Magenta; Collabs with Motorola for color-coordinated phone

Pantone has unveiled its Color of the Year for 2023, Viva Magenta.

As Pantone describes it, Viva Magenta Pantone 18-1750 is a “color that is audacious, full of wit, and inclusive of all.”

“It is a new animated red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint, an electrifying, and boundaryless shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement,” it said.

Unlike last year when Pantone created a new color, Viva Magenta draws inspiration from nature and what is real. “PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta descends from the red family, and is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.

“Rooted in the primordial, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta reconnects us to original matter. Invoking the forces of nature, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength,” adds Eiseman.

Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2022 was Very Peri 17-3938.

Motorola Edge 30 Fusion x Pantone

Pantone also collaborated with Motorola to release an Edge 30 Fusion with a Viva Magenta colorway. The smartphone looks sharp with a striking hue, along with the Pantone color palette design at the rear.

As for the specs, the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion features a 6.55-inch FHD+ P-OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support. It’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ chipset with 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a 4400mAh battery with 68W wired fast charging.

The smartphone has a 50MP triple camera setup, along with a 32MP front selfie shooter. It also comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner and stereo speakers.
