Over 5 million SIM cards were registered on the Smart network since the start of the mandatory SIM Card Registration Act.
As of January 1, 2023, a total of 5,001,755 SIM cards were registered on Smart’s SIM registration portal. Of the number, some 4,717,936 are Smart Prepaid, Smart Bro, and TNT SIMs, while 283,819 were Smart Postpaid SIMs.
SIM card registration opened on December 27, 2022, and was met with various issues. Despite the drawbacks, over three million SIM cards across all telecommunications companies were registered during the first two days.
For those who haven’t registered their SIMs, according to the Act’s Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR), you have 180 days from the start of SIM registration (or until
June 25 April 26, 2023) to do so. It could be extended to up to 120 days more if needed.
Unregistered SIM cards will be deactivated past the deadline. SIM cards that have been deactivated in this way, however, can still be reactivated after completing the registration process.
