‘The First Slam Dunk’ is now showing in Philippine cinemas

The highly anticipated The First Slam Dunk anime movie is now showing in the Philippines. The basketball anime was a huge hit in the country back in the 90s.

You can catch the anime movie on the big screen in an SM Cinema and Director’s Club near you. The film premiered in Japan last year on December 3, 2022. You can find the cinema schedule here.

The First Slam Dunk scored a respectable 8.5/10 on IMDB and 7.9/10 on MyAnimeList.net. It has a modern 3D animation to bring it up to date.

Slam Dunk is a popular sports manga by Takehiko Inoue, adapted into anime from October 1993 to March 1996 with 101 episodes. It was broadcasted worldwide, but being the basketball country that we are, it became immensely popular in the Philippines.

The anime follows the members of the Shohoku High School Basketball Team, namely Hanamichi Sakuragi (voiced by Subaru Kimura) and ace Kaede Rukawa (Shinichiro Kamio), along with Akagi Takenori (Kenta Miyake), Hisashi Mitsui (Jun Kasama), and Ryota Miyagi (Shugo Nakamura), with a modernized 3D version of the original anime style.

The First Slam Dunk is produced by Toei Animation and DandeLion Animation Studio with the original mangaka Takehiko Inoue at the helm, directing and writing the screenplay.
