Disney+ to premiere Tengoku Daimakyo, a new anime series based on award-winning manga

The series, which will debut on April 1, is adapted from the award-winning manga of the same name.

Disney+ is set to premier Tengoku Daimakyo (“Heavenly Delusion”), a new exclusive series based on a popular manga. The anime will debut on April 1 and tells the story of two young survivors in a post-apocalyptic world.

The series is adapted from the award-winning manga of the same name by Masakazu Ishiguro, which depicts a bleak future where most of humanity has been wiped out by an unknown disaster 15 years ago. Only small pockets of civilization remain, surrounded by ruins and dangers.

The protagonists, Kiruko and Maru, are two children who live in one of these settlements. One day, they receive a mysterious request from a dying man to “take this child to “Heaven”. With few clues and no idea where to go, they embark on a perilous journey across the wasteland. Along the way, they encounter various threats and mysteries, including “Hiruko” – a strange creature that hunts humans.

Tengoku Daimakyo stars Gen Sato (Dr. Stone: New World, Hoshi no Samidare) as Maru; Sayaka Senbongi (Bocchi the Rock!, Extreme Hearts) as Kiruko; and Hibiku Yamamura (Buddy Daddies, Akiba Meido Sensou) as Tokio. The production is handled by Production I.G., the renowned studio behind Psycho-Pass and Ghost In The Shell. The series is written by Makoto Fukami (Black Rock Shooter: Dawn Fall) and directed by Hirotaka Mori.

Disney+ also revealed two new artworks from the series. One shows Maru and Kiruko in front of a ruined Tokyo Tower, while the other shows a group of children living in a beautiful walled world.
