Google recently unveiled its latest flagship smartphones, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, which boast impressive specs, features, and cameras. But what makes them stand out from the rest is their promise of seven years of software updates, including Android OS upgrades, security updates, and regular Feature Drops. This means that these phones will stay up-to-date and secure for longer than any other Android phone in the market.
The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are powered by Google’s own custom-made processor, the Tensor G3, a 4nm chip with 9 cores and a clock speed of up to 3GHz. It includes the latest generation of ARM CPUs, an upgraded GPU, a new ISP and Imaging DSP, and Google’s next-gen TPU. The Pixel 8 has 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage, while the Pixel 8 Pro has 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. Both phones don’t have a microSD card slot for storage expansion.
Both phones sport OLED displays that can reach up to 2000 nits and 2400 nits of brightness respectively. They also have a smooth 120Hz refresh rate that adapts to screen content, as well as Actua technology that delivers more realistic colors and contrast.
The Pixel 8 comes with a 6.2-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels, while the Pixel 8 Pro has a 6.7-inch LTPO OLED display with 2992×1344 pixel resolution and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection.
The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro feature powerful, upgraded camera systems. The main camera has a new sensor with improved low-light capacities, while the ultrawide lens has a Macro Focus mode that can capture close-up details. The Pixel 8 Pro also has a telephoto lens that can zoom up to 10x optically and 30x digitally, as well as a temperature sensor that can measure the temperature of objects.
The front-facing camera has autofocus for sharper selfies. The camera app has a redesigned interface that lets you switch between modes easily, as well as Pro Controls that give you more creative options. The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are the first Android phones to offer seven years of software updates, which is more than double the industry standard.
