Google renamed its AI chatbot, Bard, to Gemini. The change signals a new era for the search giant’s AI platform, promising new features and functionalities. Moreover, Google also unveiled a paid subscription tier called Gemini Advanced, which packs even more power.
Gemini is Google’s largest and most capable AI model, hence the name change. Moving to the new name reflects the platform’s expanding capabilities and its ability to tackle more diverse tasks like creative writing, code generation, and complex problem-solving.
However, the big news here is the introduction of Gemini Advanced. The new paid tier leverages the more powerful Ultra 1.0 AI model, offering users enhanced capabilities in areas like advanced mathematics, complex reasoning, and personalized content creation.
While the free Gemini Pro version remains available, those seeking more AI performance will need to fork over $19.99 per month through the new Google One AI Premium plan.
It comes with a free two-month trial period, 2TB of storage, Gemini availability in Gmail, Docs, Slides, Sheets, and more, and other Google One Premium benefits.
The subscription is also available to Philippine users for hefty P1,100 per month, which you can find here.
Beyond the name change and paid tier, Google is also making Gemini more accessible by rolling out dedicated mobile apps for Android and iOS. It is available to the US market, with more countries and languages coming soon.
