The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has streamlined the identification process for Filipinos seeking financial services. Following the launch of the digital national ID in June, BSP Memorandum 2024-026 now mandates all BSP-Supervised Financial Institutions (BSFIs) to accept all formats of the national ID as valid and primary proof of identification.
This includes the physical national ID card and its digital counterpart, accessible through computers or smartphones with an internet connection at https://national-id.gov.ph. It is also available on the eGov PH app.
The digital ID contains the same information as the physical card, including the owner’s photograph, name, date of birth, address, and a QR code.
While accepting all formats is mandatory, BSFIs are required to verify the authenticity of the presented ID through the National ID Check website (https://everify.gov.ph/). Users simply scan the QR code on the digital ID for verification.
However, BSP emphasized that the National ID Check website is recommended for “low-risk transactions.” For transactions requiring higher security, BSFIs are encouraged to integrate with the National ID Authentication Services.
BSFIs include banks, quasi-banks, pawnshops, foreign exchange dealers, money changers, remittance agents, electronic money issuers, non-stock savings and loan associations, and other Bangko Sentral-Supervised Financial Institutions.
