Apple is rolling out the first Apple Intelligence features on supported iPhones, iPads, and Macs. It will be available as a free software update in beta next month as a part of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1.
The new AI brings several system-wide functionalities which include improvements to Siri and several writing tools to boost general productivity. Here are some of the highlights:
A smarter Siri, a sharper Photos app
One of the most notable upgrades is to Siri. The virtual assistant now boasts a sleeker design and enhanced natural language processing capabilities. You can even type your requests.
The Photos app is getting a significant boost too. With advanced image recognition, you can search for photos using detailed descriptions. You can also remove unwanted objects from a shot with the new Clean Up tool. And for those who love creating memories, the app can now automatically generate personalized videos based on your prompts.
Streamlined productivity and enhanced privacy
Apple Intelligence is deeply integrated into various apps. For instance, in Mail, you’ll find features like Priority Messages and Smart Reply to help you stay on top of your inbox. Notes and Phone now offer audio recording, transcription, and summarization capabilities.
Moreover, you can use Rewrite to choose from different versions of what you have written with the ability to adjust the tone. Proofread checks grammar, word choice, and sentence structure while also suggesting edits. You summarize selected text in a paragraph form, bulleted key points, a table, or a list.
But what truly sets Apple Intelligence apart is its commitment to privacy. Apple assures us that your data remains secure and private, as all processing happens locally on your device.
These are just some of the features that Apple Intelligence brings. More will be added in the months to come.
Which devices will get Apple Intelligence?
According to Apple, the new AI will be available on iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad with A17 Pro or M1 and later, and Mac with M1 and later.
The device and Siri language must be set to U.S. English for Apple Intelligence to work. Additionally, more languages and platforms are coming over the next year.
