Google reveals top searches in the Philippines in 2024

Google has just shared its annual Year in Search, giving us a look at what’s trending in the Philippines. The results reveal that Filipinos are engaged with current events, popular culture, and the latest in technology.

It’s interesting to see that six out of the top ten search terms in the Philippines were news-related. The heat wave hitting the nation was the most searched term. Climate change came in sixth overall and fifth in news searches.

Meanwhile, the 2024 Paris Olympics ranked third overall and in news searches. Filipino Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo made a significant impact, appearing in four top ten lists: overall trending, news, sports, and male personalities.

The Philippines’ love for K-pop also showed, with the Nation’s Girl Group BINI topping the female personality search list after a breakthrough year. BINI’s members, including Mikha Lim, and their hit songs “Salamin, Salamin” and “Pantropiko” also made significant appearances in the music and lyrics search categories.

The Korean drama “Queen of Tears” emerged as the top search for both series and Korean titles, highlighting the growing popularity of online streaming. This trend aligns with the 12% increase in GMV for online streaming observed in the e-Conomy SEA report.
