Google upgrades AI Overviews with Gemini 2.0, now available to more users

Google’s AI Overviews are now powered by the advanced Gemini 2.0. The update is initially rolling out to users in the US. With the upgrade, the feature will be able to address more complex questions, including coding, advanced math, and multimodal queries, leading to faster and higher quality responses.

For those unfamiliar, AI Overviews use generative AI to create concise summaries of search results, giving users key information upfront. They also include links to source websites, allowing for deeper exploration of topics.

Moreover, Google is making this feature more accessible to a wider audience. Teens can now use AI Overviews without needing to sign in.

In addition to Gemini 2.0, Google is also testing a new AI Mode in Labs. This experimental feature leverages advanced reasoning, thinking, and multimodal capabilities to assist users with complex, multi-part questions. By using a custom version of Gemini 2.0, AI Mode offers AI-powered responses with follow-up questions and helpful web links.

Currently, AI Mode is available to a limited number of opt-in users in Labs. Google plans to expand this testing phase based on user feedback.

Google One AI Premium subscribers will be the first to try out AI Mode in Labs. As Google continues to refine this feature, users can look forward to more visual responses, richer formatting, and new ways to access helpful web content.
