President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has temporarily suspended the full rehabilitation of EDSA, Metro Manila’s busiest highway, to allow concerned government agencies to “find a better way” and to explore other repair construction methods to ease the burden of the commuting public.
The one-month pause is intended to reduce disruption for daily commuters while reassessing a three-year project originally slated to begin on June 13.
Authorities will evaluate different construction methods that could speed up repairs and lessen concerns over severe traffic congestion.
The suspension will also halt the planned odd-even traffic management scheme set to start on June 16. Officials are looking to shorten the project duration from the initial three-year timeline to a period of six months to one year.
The MMDA, however, clarified that it will continue implementing the existing number coding scheme.
The EDSA Rebuild was designed to replace damaged pavement with reinforced concrete for enhanced durability. Repairs were scheduled to be carried out in segments, beginning with the stretch from Pasay to Shaw Boulevard.
Stay tuned for further updates.
