Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) will introduce facial recognition e-gates within the next six months to speed up passenger processing and improve travel efficiency.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced the upgrade during his visit to NAIA Terminal 3 on Tuesday, highlighting efforts to modernize airport operations. The new system will allow travelers to use their faces as identification, eliminating the need to show passports or IDs at multiple checkpoints.
Authorities expect the facial recognition e-gates to reduce waiting times, improve security screening, and provide a faster, more seamless airport experience.
Alongside the e-gate rollout, the New NAIA Infrastructure Corporation (NNIC) has introduced several new passenger facilities, including the OFW Immigration Annex, OFW Lounge and Rest Area, Transport Network Vehicle Service Area, and a new Arrival Service Area
NNIC Chairman Ramon Ang stated that these upgrades will support future expansion projects, including NAIA Terminal 5, which, along with NAIA Terminal 2, will increase passenger capacity by 35 million annually.
With these advancements, NAIA aims to meet global airport standards and improve travel for both domestic and international passengers.
