Nothing Phone (1) will not get OS 4.0, confirms Carl Pei

The device has reached the end of its software lifecycle.

Nothing has officially ended software support for its first smartphone, the Phone (1). In a post on X, company CEO Carl Pei said the device “has reached the end of its software lifecycle” and will not receive the upcoming Nothing OS 4.0.

Pei explained that the company had fulfilled its promise of three years of software updates. He added that users will still get one more year of security updates. This means the Phone (1) will continue to receive basic protection, but no new features or major system changes.

Pei also mentioned that Nothing is working on a special program to thank early adopters. He did not share details but asked the company how soon it could be launched.

The Phone (1) was released in 2022 and helped Nothing gain attention in the smartphone market. With this update, the company is signaling a shift in focus to newer devices like the Phone (2) and beyond.

In the Philippines, Nothing phones and devices are carried by Digital Walker.
