Google has launched a major update to its AI Mode in Search, with new tools that make it easier to explore and shop using images and natural language. The rollout begins this week in English for users in the US. Support for other languages is coming soon.
The update lets users search using images and voice. Instead of exact keywords, you can describe what you’re looking for. For instance, you can say “maximalist bedroom ideas” or “barrel jeans that aren’t too baggy,” and receive curated image results. Each image links to more details. You can also refine your search with follow-up prompts like “show me darker tones.”
Searches can now begin with text, voice, or photos. The experience is multimodal, which means you can upload an image or take a photo of one to start a query. On mobile, you can also ask questions about specific parts of an image.
Shopping results are powered by Google’s Shopping Graph, which tracks over 50 billion listings and refreshes hourly. Results include product availability, reviews, deals, and color options from both major retailers and local shops.

The update also improves image understanding. Using Gemini 2.5 and Google Lens, AI Mode can analyze subtle details and run multiple background queries to deliver more relevant results.
