PLDT Enterprise has launched SmartSafe SilentAccess, a new way to verify users without using one-time passwords (OTPs). The system uses Smart Communications’ mobile network to confirm a user’s identity, eliminating the need to enter codes or wait for SMS messages.
This new method helps protect users from scams like phishing and man-in-the-middle attacks, which target OTPs. It also makes logging in and completing transactions faster and easier.
The move supports recent guidelines from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), which encourage banks and other institutions to stop using SMS-based OTPs. It also follows recommendations from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) and the National Privacy Commission (NPC) to improve online safety.
PLDT is the first telecom company in the Philippines to offer this kind of network-based authentication, which has been certified by the GSMA, a global mobile industry group.

SilentAccess is part of a larger fraud protection system called SmartSafe. The suite can help detect SIM swap fraud, check user locations, and verify identities using the mobile network.
