GCash rolls out Virtual US Account for freelancers

The new feature offers faster USD transfers with fewer fees and direct access to earnings via GCash.

GCash has launched the GCash Virtual US Account, a new feature that helps Filipino freelancers get paid in US dollars with fewer fees and faster access. It works with platforms like PayPal, Payoneer, Gusto, Deel, Upwork, and Fiverr, letting users transfer money straight into their GCash wallet.

The goal is to make cross-border payments simpler and more affordable. Freelancers often lose part of their income to high withdrawal fees and exchange rate costs. With this new account, GCash says users can keep more of what they earn with no fees, better forex rates, on-time payments, and instant USD-to-PHP conversion.

The Virtual US Account is powered by Meridian1, a global payments network. It’s available to fully verified GCash users and supports transfers from multiple freelance and payroll platforms.

Take note that this is not a bank account and isn’t covered by deposit insurance, but it does offer a practical way to manage international earnings.

The US is a major source of remittances to the Philippines, accounting for about 40% of cash inflows from January to August, according to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
