DICT acknowledges xAI’s fixes, Grok set for comeback in Philippines

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has confirmed that xAI has addressed concerns about its AI chatbot Grok.

The agency acknowledged xAI’s explanation and remedial actions, confirming that the immediate misuse issue has been resolved. However, it did not provide details on the specific fixes implemented.

Earlier this month, Grok was blocked in the Philippines after reports that it could generate sexually explicit deepfakes, including harmful material involving minors. The takedown was carried out under the Cybercrime Prevention Act, with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) assisting DICT.

In its latest statement, DICT said xAI has issued “corrective actions” to prevent misuse and is committed to complying with Philippine laws. The agency added that while the issue has been resolved, it will continue to engage with xAI to ensure proper protections remain in place.

DICT, NTC, and CICC are scheduled to meet with xAI to finalize the resumption of Grok in the country. The agencies will review the platform’s safeguards before allowing operations to continue.
