PBBM approves 5-year registration validity for new vehicles

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has approved extending the registration validity of newly purchased vehicles from three years to five years. This translates to fewer trips to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and lower costs for vehicle owners.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) proposed the extension, which will be rolled out through official memoranda. A longer registration period means fewer renewals, shorter lines at LTO branches, and faster transactions.

The move is part of the government’s wider transport improvements. They are upgrading MRT-3 stations, expanding cashless payment systems, and refurbishing more trains to increase passenger capacity.

Big projects are also underway, including the North-South Commuter Railway, MRT-7, and the Metro Manila Subway. Partial operations for some are expected between 2027 and 2028, while full subway operations are targeted for 2033.
